If you intend to manually calibrate SmartPedal or change driving modes, you'll need to know how to power up the accelerator pedal without turning on the vehicle motor. The exact process depends upon the make and model of vehicles as well as the type of ignition (keyed or keyless):
For keyed vehicles:
Some vehicles, like the Ford Focus, immediately power up the accelerator pedal (but not the motor) when the driver begins to insert the key into the ignition. Other makes and models utilize the classic ignition lock, which contains an "on" position for powering up the electronic systems while leaving the motor off.
For keyless vehicles:
Depending on the make and model, pressing the “Start” button without touching the brake pedal usually turns on the power to the accelerator pedal, but does not start the motor.
On some vehicles, like the Ford Escape for example, you need only press the Start button once to accomplish this. On other vehicles, such as the Nissan Leaf and Toyota Prius, you will need to press the Start button twice.
