By far the most likely cause is that the accelerator pedal was powered up during installation, which sometimes occurs even if the vehicle appears to be off. Alternatively, SmartPedal may not be installed correctly or there is an unrelated issue affecting your vehicle. To discover the answer:
- Double check all connections between SmartPedal, the pedal, and the wiring harness.
- Turn vehicle on/off 5 times.
If the Check Engine light clears during these power cycles, the power was on to the accelerator pedal during installation. (In rare cases, some DTCs from a powered-up pedal will persist until cleared by a scan tool.)
Alternatively, if the check engine light does not clear using the process above:
- Remove SmartPedal and re-attach the OEM wiring harness to the accelerator pedal.
- Turn vehicle on/off 5 times.
If the Check Engine light remains on, there is likely an unrelated issue affecting your vehicle. However, if the Check Engine light clears, it's likely that SmartPedal was initially mis-installed or the unit is possibly defective. To check for the former, repeat the install process with particular care to ensure good connections on both ends of the device.
